Murdoch University

Meiling Chen is from Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, China, the hometown of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of modern China. She recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from Murdoch University, Australia.

She has had the experience of travelling and exploring the Australian outback and central regions as a backpacker, including Alice Springs, where she deeply learned about Indigenous culture and was deeply attracted by the richness and colours of their cultural stories.

Her research focuses on applying AI to analyse emotions in dream narratives, exploring how technology can support mental health understanding. For her academic achievements and research potential, she received the Google ExploreCSR scholarship.

Meiling describes herself as a quiet yet energetic person. She enjoys hiking, scuba diving, freediving, surfing, and tennis, and she has a strong interest in humanities, history, art, and literature, which broaden her perspective and inspire creativity.

Looking ahead, she hopes to focus on mental health or environmental protection, combining AI technologies to develop solutions that are practical and inclusive. She is particularly interested in work that uses technology to improve wellbeing and protect nature, while encouraging understanding between people and cultures.
