Ruyu (Sabrina) Yan is a Master of Nursing Practice student at Charles Darwin University Sydney, originally from Luoyang, China. Inspired by her mother’s experience volunteering on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic, she developed a strong interest in nursing and the role of healthcare in supporting diverse communities.
During her undergraduate studies, Ruyu (Sabrina) completed a one-year clinical placement at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, where she cared for patients from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This experience helped her recognise the importance of understanding and respecting cultural differences in healthcare.
Now studying nursing in Australia, Ruyu (Sabrina) is particularly passionate about cross-cultural healthcare and health equity for Chinese communities. Her interests focus on recognising and respecting the cultural backgrounds, values, and healthcare experiences of Chinese Australians, while reducing language and cultural barriers that may affect their access to and engagement with healthcare.
Through her nursing journey, Ruyu (Sabrina) hopes to contribute to a more culturally respectful, equitable, and inclusive healthcare environment, while strengthening mutual understanding and connections between Australia and China.
