
Tsz Hin (Derek) Ma is currently completing his Master of Applied Linguistics and TESOL at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. With a background in Psychology from Beijing Normal University, he has over seven years of professional experience in international education marketing and student recruitment across Hong Kong, mainland China, and Singapore.
Derek has held key leadership roles, including Regional Manager at James Cook University Singapore and Marketing & Recruitment Director at Hong Kong Bluebell College, where he successfully led teams and strategies to grow student enrolments across diverse Asian markets.
Now transitioning into English language teaching, Derek recently completed a practicum at MTC Australia, supporting adult migrant learners in vocational education settings. He is passionate about language education, cross-cultural communication, and empowering students through accessible, community-focused learning.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Derek brings a global outlook shaped by his trilingual fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. His career goal is to bridge education between Australia and Greater China, promoting intercultural understanding through applied linguistics and policy reform.
He is honoured to join the 2025 Stephen FitzGerald Scholars Program and looks forward to contributing to dialogue on Australia–China relations through an educational lens.
