Xiaoli Liu is a Master of Translation Studies student at The University of Western Australia. She has worked as a subtitler, translator, and publicist in China’s film industry. Her professional experience includes audiovisual translation, film publicity and media relations, the production of promotional materials, and the organization of film premieres and promotional events.
Originally from Hebei Province, China, Xiaoli is particularly interested in the role of translation in cross-cultural communication. Her current research explores gender representation in film subtitles, with a focus on the translation of feminist discourse in contemporary media.
Xiaoli plans to further develop her expertise in audiovisual and media translation while exploring opportunities in intercultural communication. She hopes to use translation to strengthen cross-cultural understanding and facilitate communication between Chinese-speaking communities and the broader Australian community.
